Sadly I have gone to the Dark Side (24 May 2017)

After years of running this site, I have now gone to The Dark Side. This web site will continue, but I really need someone new to take over.

× Come and say hello

Brianlec created the topic: Hello all.
So a friend of ours asked if I knew anyone who wanted a trailer tent as he had upgraded to a caravan. We have been camping for many years, so thought it could be a nice idea. Sleeping off the ground did appeal to the "boss". We were told it was a Dandy "vintage" 4 berth. It was in France as that's where they now live.
Well on seeing it, it transpires it is actually a late eighties 5 berth. All in very good condition as far as I could see, provided you turned a blind eye to the "gorilla snot" paint finish on all the metal. He said it was the French equivalent of Hammerite, but maybe he confused it with non slip paint going on the surface finish.
We had a trial run in it for a few days and loved it, so duly paid the price of €200.

So now we have a Dandy which will be based in France for the time being with all that countryside and wonderful campsites to visit.

I will be doing a few jobs though. All that ugly paint will have to come off sometime, though the metal underneath seems good.
The mattress is a bit hard now so a mattress topper will be installed.
I have got a couple of LED lights and an old car battery for the moment, but need to look further into that.
The other thing I would dearly love to do is add gas struts, so I have been reading all about that on this and the old forum.

What a great story, and lucky you :)

Be sure to take photos and share as you are doing the work.

I should have taken a few photos when I bought it, might have helped my memory.

Next time I go over to France I will take more. However, I must look into the cost of getting it back to the UK, be easier to work on it.
