Hi

I have a 1997 Dandy Discovery. Someone has asked if they can hire it for a month or two as they are doing some building work some distance away and want somewhere to sleep.

I'm wondering what the effect will be on the pvc of exposure to sunlight for 2 months. Does anyone know if it will significantly decrease the life of the pvc?

Regards

David

Hello David. Personally I wouldn't have thought it could make a lot of difference to it.
It's a white roof isn't it so should reflect light.
If you are really worried about it could you suggest they use a fly sheet over the roof. We experimented a few weeks ago with a matching tarpaulin over our roof as I wanted to see how dark we could make the bedroom. Worked well but was a little unsightly.

When you consider the age of some of the Dandys which are still going strong I really don't think it's an issue.
Hopefully somebody with more experience than me can help. I've only had a Dandy for 11years and it's been used every year barring one.

As a PS David, you didn't say when they wanted it. The weather isn't likely to last a very hot over the next month or so and although you do get hot days in autumn the days, therefore the exposure to sunshine, will be shorter.

I would be more worried whether they would take care of the inside like you would yourself

The PVC is I believe similar to the type used on HGV lorries. As stated looking at the age of some of the dandy I wouldn't think you need to worry about it being exposed to the sunlight. Sani makes a good point about taking care of the insides
