Hi, does anyone use the under floor heater (designer)? I fired ours up the other day and the wife flew out the door faster than a speeding bullet
she just doesn't trust it so now I know how to get some peace
I always turn the gas off at night just incase but do you guys have regular gas checks done ?
George

Hello George. We don't have regular checks but do change the hose every few years. Last year we had the Dandy serviced by Ian at Riva and that involved changing the hose too.
Having said that, my other half will only put it on as I'm actually cooking and won't leave it on a minute after. As I'm serving up, he's turning it off !!
We do have a gas light which when one of this year's camps it was so cold that we decided to use it to warm the up the Dandy as well as supplying light. Now this kind of gas I am very wary of. I make him light it outside the van !!
What a pair eh !

Hi Sanjo, sounds lke your other half needs to join my wimp club
I like this heating it's not in your face and it's a great heat so I may get it checked out to keep her indoors happy, having said that why should we not use the elctric supplied by most sites? I'm 64 so what are the chances of wild camping ? hmm I think it will be fine until I put the heating on
Think I'll just use a small electric convection heater for now, I don't want to rip out any original parts from the Dandy.
Our first outing was fab we had a great time the weather was fine and the Dandy was really confotable. It does look a little retro but inside it's just amazing, we were parked in between some really super duper caravans but we were just as comfortable and the Dandy raised a few eybrows more than them that's for sure

We do always use the electric hook up now that we are older (mine's 76 this year) but in the past we have camped on Caravan Club CLs where they only allow 5 outfits and sometimes have no sanitation. We just took a toilet tent and made sure the gas bottles were full.
It's fine like that for a few days, and you get very inventive. We used to leave a big, full water bottle outside wrapped in a black bin bag and if the weather was good you'd come back to hot, and I mean hot, water ready for use.
We bought one of those water containers that hang from a tree, the sort that has the tube and spout hanging down and we did the same with that. Wrapped it in a black bag and hung it in a tree then put it inside the toilet tent. Used to have to top with cold before you washed off under it.
Nowadays, you can buy the same thing, already in a black case and with a shower top. We were obviously very innovative in our younger days.
Heater wise we have taken a small electric radiator (we will be camping next month so will be sure to pack it) but when we resorted to the gas light for warmth it was mid June and we hadn't expected it to be so cold that night. We both ended up going to bed wearing socks !!
Glad you are having fun in your Dandy. We always feel tiny in comparison to some of the monsters now arriving and pitching up.

Well I don't think I'll be trying your trick with the black bag, the wife will think I've finally flipped ha
We will try to get out again this year but unless my wife gets a long weekend our next holiday is in October so it will depend on the weather.
Hope you enjoy your camp next month but leave the black bags at home

We have used our old orange Dandy down to -7°C with just the underfloor heater for warmth. Visitors are always surprised how warm it is inside.
We do have a CO alarm fitted which gives peace of mind when we leave the heating on all night.
